内容記述 [Purpose] The crosshair light sharing (CLS) PET detector, which has depth-of-interaction (DOI) capability, was recently developed by our group. In this work, as the first practical system based on the CLS detector, we developed a high-resolution portable small-animal PET with a long axial field-of-view (FOV) of 20 cm.

[Methods] The system was composed of 128 CLS detectors*, which consisted of GFAG crystals and SiPMs. All devices were mounted on a compact pushcart (740 mm × 950 mm), and the system worked with a power supply from a typical wall socket of AC100V. The axial FOV was 207 mm, which covered a total-body of rat. Performance characterization was performed according to the NEMA NU4 standards. In addition, a 22Na ultra-micro hot phantom was used for spatial resolution measurement, and normal mouse and rat PET imaging with 18F-NaF and 18F-FDG was performed for imaging demonstration.

[Results] The developed CLS-PET system successfully resolved 0.75 mm rods of the ultra-micro hot phantom. The sensitivity was 1.1% at the FOV center and the peak noise-equivalent count rate was 62 kcps@76 kBq/mL. The coincidence timing resolution was 496 ps. For the NaF-PET, mouse and rat total-body images were obtained, and detailed bone structures were clearly observed. For the mouse FDG-PET, cardiac FDG uptakes were clearly visualized.

[Conclusion] The CLS-PET system achieved sub-mm spatial resolution and successfully provided mouse and rat total-body images. This portable small-animal PET system can offer opportunities for novel applications such as studies on PET-guided radiation therapy and PET-guided surgery.
