内容記述 | Ionizing radiation affects the mobility and the metastatic potential of tumors. These endpoints are regulated by specific adhesion molecules, such as the E-cadherins and lysyl oxidase (LOX). These molecules are downregulated E-cadherins) and upregulated (LOX) in hypoxia. To study the adhesion molecules and to understand the underlying mechanisms that give to the cells the invasive phenotype, measurements of e-cadherin and LOX protein and gene expression have been performed in irradiated prostate cancer cells. X-rays induced a slight increase of E-cadherin after chronic hypoxic treatment (72 hours 0.5% O2) compared to normoxic cells. A low dose of carbon ion irradiation resulted in an overexpression of E-cadherin, while the opposite was found for X-rays. Implications of these results in radiotherapy will be discussed. |
