内容記述 | Artepillin C, a major component of Brazilian propolis, is known to act as an antioxidant, which efficiently scavenges reactive oxygen species generated in the biological systems. In order to improve the radical-scavenging activity of artepillin C, we synthesized four artepillin C derivatives and compared their scavenging rate constants of cumylperoxyl radical in propionitrile at 203 K by the electron spin resonance (ESR) technique. More than two-fold higher scavenging activity of cumylperoxyl radical as compared to Artepillin C was observed with a derivative, where the isoprenyl and carboxyl groups in Artepillin C are substituted by methoxy and hydroxymethyl groups, respectively. | |||||
