| 内容記述 | In order to clarify the radiation sensitivity of a specific brain region individually without a mutual interaction with other brain regions, we have developed an experimental system for irradiating a small and restricted region of the rat brain, using the feature of accelerated heavy-ion beams.Male Sprague-Dawley rats, aged 10-14 weeks and weighing 225-320 g, were used. The left cerebral hemispheres of the rat brains were irradiated at doses of 30, 50 or 100 Gy with charged carbon particles (290 MeV/nucleon; 5 mm spread-out Bragg peak), and effects of local accelerated heavy-ion irradiation on the rat brain were studied after irradiation. Gross anatomy of the brain was examined using a clinical magnetic resonance imaging system, behavioral and histological changes were observed at different ages of the rat. | |||||
