内容記述 | Heavy-ion cancer therapy using a 12C-beam has been carried out at HIMAC (Heavy Ion Medical Accelerator in Chiba) in NIRS (National Institute of Radiological Sciences) since 1994. One of the forward planning in HIMAC is to use a positron emitter beam such as 11C(R.I.) beam for the cancer therapy. In connection with that study, a gas-pulsing system has been developed for an Electron Cyclotron Resonance Ion Source (Kei2-source). The gas-pulsing system is consists of two fast solenoid-valves, which reserve a limited amount of the 11CH4 gas. The number of gas-molecule containing the one-pulse is controlled by range of 1014 ppp for Ch4-molecules. The pulse is synchronized iwht a syslce of the synchrotron operating in HIMAC, that the pulse width and the repetition sycle are around l msec and 3.3 second, respectively/ An adcantage of gas-pulsing system utiliing to the Kei2-souce is to expevt an effective utilization of limited amount of gas, and to obtain high conversion-efficiencies of C-ion beam extracted from the ion source in contrast with a contnuous flow, Details of the gas-pulsing system and result of test are presented. | |||||
