| 内容記述 | Purpose: To estimate the toxicity and efficacy of carbon ion radiotherapy for skull base and paracervical tumors. Materials and Methods: Between April 1997 and August 2007, a total of 46 patients with skull base or paracervical tumors have been treated with carbon ion radiotherapy for the phase I/II or phase II clinical trials. The 46 patients consisting of 20 males and 26 females, their age range was from 16 to 78, with a median age of 50 years. Histologically, 46 patients had 29 chordoma, 6 malignant meningioma, 7 chondrosarcoma, 3 olfactory neuroblastoma and one giant cell sarcoma. Results: Median follow-up time in 46 patients was 50 months (range, 4-122 months). At the time of analysis, there was no evidence of any serious acute or late reactions. The five-year local control rates according to prescribed tumor dose were 75% at 48 GyE (n=4), 67% at 52.8 GyE (n=6), 78% at 57.6 GyE (n=9) and 93% at 60.8 GE (n=27), respectively. The five-year overall survival rates were 50% at 48 GyE, 100% at 52.8 GyE, 100% at 57.6 GyE and 76% at 60.8 GyE, respectively. In 29 chordoma patients, they were divided into two groups; a low-dose group (n=10) irradiated with doses ranging from 48 to 57.8 GyE and a high-dose group (n=19) irradiated with a 60.8 GyE. The five-year local control rates were 60% for the low-dose group and 91% for the high-dose group. The five-year overall survival rates were 89% for the low-dose group and 94% for the high-dose group. Conclusions: Carbon ion radiotherapy will deliver a high local control rates with low toxicity to the surrounding normal tissues. |
