内容記述 | Resonant interaction between fast ions and electromagnetic modes has been considered as a means to remove partially slowed-down alpha particles (helium ash) from a burning plasma, which is one aspect of so-called “alpha channeling”. This motivated us to study the properties of resonances in different tokamaks (DIII-D, ITER, JT-60U). Here we report our recently published results [White & Bierwage, Phys. Plasmas 28, 032507 (2021)]. We show that if resonances exist at low particle energy, they very likely also exist at high energy. The only exception we found is a JT-60U plasma with steeply rising safety factor profile due to centralized current drive from powerful particle beams, but such conditions may be difficult to maintain in an efficient way in the large plasma of a power plant. We conclude that the use of resonances for helium ash removal may be difficult to realize without compromising the confinement of energetic alphas needed for heating. | |||||
