内容記述 The carbon-ion radiotherapy (CiRT) at HIMAC was started since 1994 and the patient number exceeds 11,000. The number of the CiRT farcicalities in the world exceeds 10 and is increasing. All of the existing CiRT facilities are large ones with than 3 treatment rooms and the size of about 60m x 45m. From the history of the proton radiotherapy, a compact single gantry facility will be required to reduce the cost and the space in the near future. The advantage of CiRT is a small fraction number (about 12 at HIMAC) and more patients in the single gantry CiRT facility can be treated than those of the proton facility. National Institutes for Quantum and Radiological Science and Technology (QST) has started the development of a two-room carbon-ion radiotherapy device since 2017, using the laser acceleration technology and the modern superconducting technology. It is called "quantum scalpel". It also supports the multiple-ion irradiation with He, C, O, Ne, of which the clinical trial is planned at HIMAC. I will present the design of the quantum scalpel and the present status of the R&D.
