内容記述 | Isoforms of Heterochromatin Protein 1 (HP1) have been known to perform a multitude of functions ranging from gene silencing, gene activation to cell cycle regulation and cell differentiation. This functional diversity arises from the dissimilarities coded in protein sequence which confers different biophysical and biochemical properties to individual structural elements of HP1 and thereby displays different behavior and interaction pattern. Hence, an understanding of various interactions of the structural elements of HP1 will be of utmost importance to get the bigger picture.In this review, we have assembled the latest information about interactions of HP1's structural elements with DNA and histone/non-histone proteins as well as interactions within HP1's structural elements. Also, the possible, biological implications of these interactions have been discussed. | |||||
