内容記述 | Background: Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear disaster forced the evacuation of a large number of residents and created changes in the lifestyle of the evacuees. That caused limited physical activity and stressful environment and would be concerned with the risk of many kind of disease. Many people worry about radiation induced cancer risk, especially to children. Hence, it is important to establish a new prevention method for children’s stress and radiation effects. Environmental enrichment (EE) provides positive physical and psychological stress. Previous reports showed that EE reduced the number of spontaneous small intestinal tumor of C57BL/6 (Cao et al 2010). Aim: The aim of this study is verification of radiation-induced tumor inhibition by EE. Methods: Male C3B6F1 Apc min/+ mice were irradiated with X rays (2Gy) at 2 weeks after birth, then housed in Standard environment (SE) or EE cages from 3 to 20 weeks of age. The EE cage was 8 times larger than SE cage and consisted of a number of toys. After housing, all mice were sacrificed under the anesthesia. Small intestine and colon were collected for histopathological examination. Serum samples were also collected for biochemical analysis. Results/Conclusions: EE increased food intake and decreased body weight and fat mass compared with SE mice. EE changed serum level of lipid components and hormones. In irradiated mice, EE significantly reduced the number of colon tumor but not small intestine and suppressed the tumor size in both small intestine and colon compared with the mice housed under SE condition. These observations show that EE has a potent cancer prevention effect improvement effects of lipid metabolism in this mice model of radiation-induced intestinal tumor. |
