内容記述 | Tellurium (Te) is an intriguing element in geosciences. It has eight naturally occuring stable isotopes. 120Te is produced by p-process, 122Te, 123Te and 124Te by s-process, 128Teand 130Te by r-process whereas 125Te and 126Te both produced by s and r-processes. All of these isotopes are important from the viewpoint of nucleosynthesis1,2. In case of Chernobyl and Fukushima nuclear accidents, a huge amount of radioactive Te (127mTe, 129mTe and 132Te) were released along with other radionuclides such as 110mAg, 125Sb, 131I, 133I, 133Xe, Cs, etc. into atmosphere1. Among the released radioactive Te isotopes, 127mTe, a beta emitter may cause a potential risk to the environment, because it is reported that the contribution of radioactive tellurium to internal radiation dose may not be negligible for radioactive cesium2. Precise isotope ratio measurement of Te is a challenging task, beacuse of its very high first ionization potential (9.009eV). MC-ICP-MS is one of the most suitable technique for precise isotope ratio measurement other than thermal ionization mass spectrometry (TIMS)3,4. In this present study, a new method has been developed for the measurement of Te isotopes using MC-ICP-MS (Nu Instrument Plasma-3D) using Faraday cups with variable resistor (1011 and 1012 ohm). 120Te (0.09%) isotope is measured with a 1012 ohm resistor whereas rest of Te isotopes were measured using normal Faraday cup collectors. Various concentration of 100, 200, 300, 400 and 500 ng mL-1 of Te standards were measured to find the reproducibility of Te isotope ratio. Te concentration of 200 ng mL-1 is selected for the isotope analysis based on its reproducibility and 2σ error. The isotope ratio for terrestrial Te standard are 0.002903(7), 0.079645(21), 0.027837(14), 0.222013(19), 0.592252(30), and 1.076154(70) for 120Te/128Te, 122Te/128Te, 123Te/128Te, 125Te/128Te, 126Te/128Te and 130Te/128Te respectively. The isotope ratios were corrected for the mass fractionation by normalizing with 124Te/128Te ratio (0.14853) using the exponential law. The precision of 120Te/128Te, 122Te/128Te, 123Te/128Te, 125Te/128Te, 126Te/128Te and 130Te/128Te isotope ratios were 0.166%, 0.012%, 0.07%, 0.004%, 0.003%, and 0.004% relative standard deviation, respectively. These results were compared with other researchers data using MC-ICP-MS and negative-TIMS. The analytical precision of Te isotope ratios measured by MC-ICP-MS was better than earlier studies3,4. The method has been applied to measure Te isotope ratios in certified reference materials (JGB-1, JB-1) supplied by geological survey of Japan (GSJ) and soil. |
