内容記述 | Improvement of scanner sensitivity is an important issue for PET. Better scanner sensitivity enables not only quantitative imaging but also shorter scan time, reduced radiation dose and shorter time-frame intervals. In conventional PET scanners, however, detectors which are arranged closer to the field-of-view (FOV) degrade the peripheral spatial resolution due to the parallax error. Some research groups have concentrated on depth-of-interaction (DOI) measurement, which suppresses the parallax error. Among them, dual layer DOI detectors based on the pulse shape discrimination of two types of crystals have been developed and practically installed in a human brain PET scanner and small animal PET scanners. In order to achieve not only higher spatial resolution but also higher scanner sensitivity, we have proposed a novel detector which provides 4-layer DOI information of multi-layered thin crystals based on the coded reflector insertion, and we are developing a prototype scanner, jPET-D4. At this stage, we have developed a full-ring prototype scanner and 3D image reconstruction software. In this work, we present imaging performance of the jPET-D4 prototype. |
