内容記述 | 1. Purpose/Objective(s) In Japan, we have experienced the particle therapy for more than 30 years. Our hospital and the Japan Clinical Study Group of Particle Therapy (JCPT) studied the achievements of the Japanese particle therapy from 1979 to 2012. The study group covered the all particle therapy institutions. The aim of the paper is to disclose the status of Japanese particle therapy and to analyze the change of the number of the therapy. 2. Materials and Methods: The JCPT member consisted of the 10 particle therapy institutions. The JCPT office gathered each institutions annual report and analyzed the trend in treatment. We counted the number of particle therapies for a proton therapy and a carbon ion therapy. We analyzed the disease, gender and age distributions. 3. Results The number of particle therapy treatment from 1979 to 2012 reached 21506. Each annual number of particle therapy was 520 (244 proton:p, 276 carbon:c) in 2002, 794 (474 p, 320 c) in 2003, 1082 (699 p, 383 c) in 2004, 1276 (803 p, 473 c) in 2005, 1453 (827 p, 626 c) in 2006, 1712 (923 p, 789 c) in 2007, 1712 (781 p, 931 c) in 2008, 2233 (1278 p, 955 c) in 2009, 2469 (1421p, 1048c) in 2010 ,2884 (1757p, 1127c) in 2011 and 3237 (1961 p, 1276 c) in 2012. The number of patients according to the primary lesion ranged 489 (382 p, 107 c) for CNS tumors, 2568 (1684 p, 1306 c) for Head and Neck tumors, 2478 (1420 p, 1058 c) for lung tumors, 763 (661 p, 102 c) for upper digestive organ tumors, 3254 (2297 p, 948 c) for liver tumors, 748 (472 p, 276 c) for pancreas tumors, 398 (158 p, 240 c) for gynecological tumors, 5672 (3591 p, 2081 c) for prostate tumors, 1526 (389 p, 1137 c) for bone and soft tissue tumors, 630 (194 p, 436 c) for recurrent rectal tumors and 2552 (887 p, 1665 c) for other or unclassified tumors. The major target was a prostate cancer. The gender distribution of the patients treated by the particle therapy was 15710 for male and 5796 for female. The ratio of male to female was 2.71 to one. Overall number of patient per a population of 100 thousand was 16.7 and 2.51 at only 2012. Each prefecture where hospital exists showed many patients more than the average value (2.51) ranging from 3.46 to 9.54. \n4. Conclusions This paper reports the activity of our hospital and Japanese particle therapy for 34 years. We think that the analysis of the particle therapy is very important for the radiation oncology. We will be able to realize the desirable co-operation between the JCPT hospitals and establish the Japanese database concerned with the proton and carbon ion therapy. |
