内容記述 | The aim of this study was to clarify the cell survival in human salivary gland (HSG) cells after 290 MeV/nucleon carbon-ion beams and X-rays. Irradiation with either carbon-ion beams with a 6-cm spread-out Bragg peak or 200kV X-rays was delivered to HSG cells. HSG cells were irradiated at six positions (plateau, middle, 25 mm upstream, 25 mm downstream, 28 mm downstream, 35 mm downstream of middle position). Cell kill efficiencies of carbon-ions and X-rays were measured by colony formation assay. The contributions of OH radical mediated indirect action were estimated from the maximum degree of protection by DMSO, which suppresses indirect action without affecting direct action. The large RBE value (~2.5) showed at the distal-end (25 mm downstream) in the SOBP. The contributions of indirect action decreased with the depth of the SOBP. That of indirect action for the SOBP beam at the distal-end was 65% +/- 2. That at plateau position was 86% +/- 9, and the value was very similar in X-rays (77% +/- 5). Interestingly, we could see the high contribution of indirect action to cell killing at the distal-end in SOBP carbon-ions, although RBE of 2.5 was shown. | |||||
