内容記述 | In aircraft, we are unavoidably exposed to the elevated level of cosmic radiation. The international Commission of RadiologicalProtection(ICRP) has thus recommended that exposures to cosmic radiation in operation of a jet aircraft be part of occupational exposure. Cosmic radiation dose of aircraft crew, so-called "aviation route dose", is generally evaluated by numerical model calculations. The precision of the calculation should be verified by measurements. Neutrons are the most contribution radiation component to be verified from the viewpoint of radiological protection. We thus planned and performed neutron measurement in a long-haul flight using a transportable, electromagnetically safe neutron monitor (WENDI-II) which should respond fairly well to the cosmic-ray neutrons regarding to 1 cm ambient dose equivalent. The measuremnt was carried out on November 6 to 7, 2009 on a polar route flight from John F. Kennedy airport, New York toIncheon airport, Seoul. The flying time was about 14 hours. The observations obtained as 1 cm ambient dose equivalent were compared to the results of numerical model calculations using the program for the calaulation of aviation route doses "JISCARD EX". Good agreements between measured and calculated values were seen over the polar region where the geomagnetic cutoff rigidity is the lowest. Some accompanying uncertainties will be discussed. |
