内容記述 | We are developing the next generation depth-of-interaction detector, X'tal cube, with isotropic and high spatial resolution for positron emission tomography (PET). The X'tal cube consists of a crystal block optically segmented three-dimensionally without any reflector insertion. 4x4 multi-pixel photon counter (MPPC) arrays cover all six surfaces of the crystal block. The six-surface readout can obtain rich position information, and it is expected to realize high isotropic spatial resolution. On the other hand, a large number of readout at various photodetector positions could effect on the timing resolution. From the perspective, we studied the timing characteristics of the X'tal cube detector. To obtain the details of the timing information, we used a measurement system which consisted of two digital oscilloscopes (DPS7104, Tektronix) and a standard NIM/CAMAC system. The timing information was acquired from six sum signals of the 16 MPPCs on each surface with summing amplifiers. These signals were digitalized and recorded by two digital oscilloscopes. Signals from the BaF2 were also recorded with the oscilloscope, which was used as the start signals of the coincidence timing. We used the 96ch MPPC signals individually recorded by CAMAC ADCs synchronized with the digital oscilloscopes to create flood histograms and energy spectra. Results showed that pulse shapes of the output signals and timing information from each surface clearly depended on the interacted crystal position. In addition, timing resolution was improved by selecting the optimum combination of the readout signals of each surface. | |||||
