内容記述 | Radiocesium concentrations in the environment is of great concern in Japan after the TEPCO's Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant (FDNPP) accident occurred on 11 March 2011. In the open field, fern species tend to concentrate radiocesium from soil. Field horsetail (Equisetum arvense) is a kind of fern, and the fertile shoots are eaten as vegetables in Japan in the spring. Thus, concentrations and distribution patterns of radiocesium in the fertile shoots are of interest. In this study, the distribution in plant components was compared using samples collected in 2011 (n=1) and 2012 (n=3): the sample collected in 2011 received direct deposition from the FDNPP accident while those collected in 2012 included radiocesium mainly taken up from soil. About 200-300 shoots were collected at each sampling time. After taking samples from the collected shoots to measure whole body concentration, the shoots were separated into strobilus, leaves and stems. For the samples collected in 2012, all the samples were oven-dried at 80C to decrease volume since the concentrations of radiocesium were much lower than those of 2011. All samples were measured using Ge detecting systems. The Cs concentration in samples collected in 2012 decreased by 100-200 times compared to that in 2011. The Cs distribution patterns in strobili, leaves and stems of 2012 samples were almost the same as those of 2011; however, the patterns were different from those of potassium. Concerning the radiocesium concentration in spores, no increase was found compared to that in whole body by comparing strobili samples with and without spores. |
