内容記述 | アブストラクト Propose We have developed a Monte Carlo simulation software to calculate dose distributions for carbon ion therapy using a scanning irradiation system. It is capable of high precision calculations and will be applied for treatment planning. Methods The software is developed by extending the functions of the PTSsim, which is a Geant4 based Monte Carlo simulation framework for particle therapy, and able to handle CT image data in DICOM format. We created a new C++ library to describe the scanning irradiation system being developed at HIMAC at the National Institute of Radiological Sciences in Chiba, Japan. Moreover, models to compute the relative biological effectiveness from physical doses and radiation quality are built to obtain biological dose distributions. Results We verified the simulations by comparing simulated physical dose distributions of pencil beams in water phantom with experimental measurements for 230, 290 and 350 MeV/n carbon beams. We found that our simulations could reproduce the measurements well after a modification of a few parameters used to simulate electromagnetic processes in Geant4. Verifications for more complicated geometries are making progress now. Also Monte Carlo simulations for the patients' CT images and comparisons with analytical calculations have been performed. Conclusions We have built a Monte Carlo simulation software for a carbon ion scanning irradiation system. The software is able to calculate both physical and biological dose distributions in geometries defined by CT image data. The Accuracy of the simulations is found to be acceptable for applications to treatment planning. We will establish a way to apply it to practical treatment planning by using our developed software. |
