内容記述 | It is possible to use stable carbon isotopes as a tracer instead of radioactive C-14 to understand the organic compounds fate in the soil environment. In this study, therefore, we used high performance liquid chromatography coupled with isotope ratio mass spectrometry (HPLC-IRMS) to measure the changes of chemical form added to soil. A soil sample (0.5 g-dry) was added to 5mL of deionized water, and then, a small portion of acetic acid, which was labeled with C-13, was spiked to obtain 2mM carbon concentration in the surface water. At 0, 8, 16, 24, 48, 72 and 168 h after addition of acetic acid, the surface water was collected destructively. Immediately after the solution was passed through a 0.2-um filter, the filtrate was analyzed by HPLC-IRMS. We also kept the filtrates for 6 months at 5C to check the sample stability. The results showed that the acetic acid was detected for the first 24 h, but could not be detected afterwards. No other chemical form was observed by this HPLC-IRMS system. We assumed that the added carbon would be immobilized by the soil or discharged to the air. Concerning the sample storage period, no data difference between before and after the storage was found. |
