内容記述 | A project to construct a new treatment facility as an extension of the existing Heavy-Ion Medical Accelerator in Chiba (HIMAC) facility has been initiated for further development of carbon-ion therapy at National Institute of Radiological Sciences (NIRS). In the facility, the raster scanning irradiation method will be utilized instead of the conventional passive irradiation method. In order to achieve the planned 3D dose distribution with the method, the best particle numbers (weight) and positions of each pencil beam, i.e. the best 3D matrix of the pencil beams, must be found at the stage of treatment planning. In order to assess the quality of the irradiation method through beam experiments, we started to develop the research version of the treatment planning tool along with the design study of the irradiation system. When the planned target volume (PTV) delineated on patient’s CT was imported to the planning tool, the best beam steering file can be derived. The scanning sequence of each raster point is determined by applying the traveling salesman problem (TSP). Furthermore, the extra dose in raster scanning, indicating the dose delivered during the transition time from one spot to the next spot in raster scanning, is incorporated to the inverse planning calculation in order to shorten the beam irradiation time as much as possible. The irradiation experiment was performed at the secondary beam course in HIMAC using derived beam steering file, and the reliability of the planning tool is confirmed. In the meeting, the details of the development of the planning tool and the experimental results will be shown. | |||||
