内容記述タイプ Abstract
内容記述 At the national center for radiation emergency medicine, the first step in the radiation emergency response is early identification of unknown nuclide which might be taken in the body. In such a situation, gamma emitting nuclides are relatively easy to be identified by Ge detectors. As for beta emitting nuclides, "Pico beta" has been only commercialized installed beta-ray spectrometer, which consists of a gas flow type GM counter and a plastic scintillator. However, it is difficult to carry the spectrometer because it has the thick lead gamma ray shield and Q gas supply system. Also, over one hour will be necessary to stabilize the gas system before measurements. Then, the detector for a portable beta-ray spectrometer was developed aiming to evaluate unknown nuclides promptly in the locale in the emergency. A main detector of this is a plastic scintillator whose decay time is 285nsec. The thickness of the scintillator was designed based on the maximum range of 90Y. On the entrance surface of the main detector, plastic scintillator of liquid was spread in order to make an extremely thin detector with low sensitivity to gamma rays. The decay time of this scintillator is about 2.5nsec. This thin detector is used as a trigger detector for beta rays. The third scintillator of this spectrometer is CsI(Tl) scintillator which has the decay time of 600nsec at the shortest. The main detector was surrounded by this scintillator except the entrance surface. The purpose of this is veto detector to reduce a contribution of environmental gamma rays to the main detector. These scintillators are optically coupled in the same axis and the scintillation light is detected by one photomultiplier tube. This is a kind of phoswich detector. The decay time difference of the scintillators is identified by the pulse shape respectively.
