内容記述 Radium-226 (226Ra, T1/2: ca. 1600 y) is a naturally occurring radioisotope belonging to the 238U decay series. It also is present in various radioactive wastes associated with past uranium processing. Due to its high specific activity (3.7x10e10 Bq g-1) and long biological half-life in bones (16400 y), 226Ra draws much attention as one of the most toxic natural radionuclide. 226Ra enters the human body through food and drinking water. For these reasons, monitoring of 226Ra in environmental waters is an important task. However, determination of 226Ra in natural waters is difficult due to its low concentration, generally in order of mBq l-1, and the complexity of the sample matrix. Consequently, pre-concentration of Ra and removal of the potential interfering elements is required prior to measurement.
We describe a chemical separation procedure for determination of 226Ra in natural water samples with high-resolution ICP-MS (HR-ICP-MS). The proposed procedure is focused on the application of ion exchange and extraction chromatography for selective extraction of Ra from water samples. The developed method was applied for 226Ra analysis in Japanese rivers.
