内容記述 [Background] A focal phenomenon of these experimental series is a skill of traditional Japanese martial arts; so-called "toh-ate". Toh-ate is claimed as a non-contact attack against human at a distance. Toh-ate is seen as a powerful signal by psi. In modern Japan, veteran practitioners of martial arts or qigong masters often claim that they have ability to do "toh-ate". And, there are various toh-ate like performances in other martial arts. Therefore data of Japanese martial arts were compared with data of Chinese martial arts.
[Subjects] For one experiment, 6 pairs of veteran practitioners of martial arts who have trained more than 5 years. Three pairs of them are practitioners of Shintaido Kyokai (a school of Japanese martial arts) and the other pairs are practitioners of The All Japan Shaolin Temple Qigong Association (a school of Chinese martial arts). As control, 6 pairs of non-trainees who have not trained. Experiments were done twice.
[Methods] Two subjects of a pair are put in separate rooms with communicational deprivation. The experimenters measure physiological changes of one of the two, acting as a Receiver, when the other, acting as a Sender, attempts to give a remote attack to the Receiver at a distance. The Receiver is seated in an electromagnetic shielding cage and the Sender performs only one "sending" motion per 80-second trial on double blinded and randomized conditions. When the Sender or Receiver pushes a switch as the event marker, output signals are produced. The signals are recorded as the sending time or the response time, along with electrodermal activities (EDA) and other physiological data, by recorders. The Receiver's skin conductances are sampled at a rate of 1kHz by exosomatic method (DC 0.5V constant). The Receiver's skin temperatures (SKT) at the middle of palm also are measured by a thermistor.
[Results] A questionnaire survey showed that unusual experiences were much experienced by both practitioners than by non-trainees. Both Receiver's EDA and SKT are analyzed in the range of 5 sec before and after the initial time of sending. Totally 797 data were available for analyses of time coincidence between motions of Sender and Receiver. Each pairs of Shintaido did not show any significant peaks. Two pairs of Shaolin showed 5% significant peaks at +11 sec. If these delay peaks were caused by toh-ate, the reason was considered that sending performances of Shaolin were longer than several seconds.
