内容記述 | Health effect of low dose radiation is the most important subject in the field of radiation biology now. In the South of China there is a high background radiation area (HBRA) where the environmental natural radiation level is three to five times higher than that in control area. Major sources of the high level radiation in this area are nuclides of Th-232 and U-238 decay products in the soil and in the building materials (1).An epidemiological study conducted in HBRA and control area showed no statistically significant increase in both cancer risk and mortality of cancers (2). On the other hand, frequency of dicentrics plus rings, which are known to be radiation specific chromosome aberrations, in the lymphocytes of the residents in HBRA was higher than that in control area (3). Preliminary study of translocations could not detect difference in the frequencies between those two areas(4). In the present study we report the result of further study of FISH analysis of the accumulated chromosomal translocations (stable type aberrations) that reflect the effects of all kinds of mutagenic factors such as chemicals, active oxygen as well as radiation. | |||||
