内容記述 Dose measurements during manned space missions such as International Space Station (ISS) at low earth orbit (LEO) are important for evaluating radiation risk of astronauts in complicated space radiation environment originated by many species of accelerated primarily charged particles in wide energy range. At the current status, the radiation protection on ISS is mostly depending on the shielding effect of vehicle wall and internal equipment. However, a possible additional radiation shielding that can reduce the mission integrated dose should be practically verified both for LEO and forthcoming long-term missions to the Moon and Mars. In our space experiment, we verified dose reduction rate for space radiation by installation of the additional water shielding (the hygienic wipes and towels containing water) of ~8 g/cm2 in the ISS Service Module crew cabin. The dose reduction rates of absorbed dose and dose equivalent were evaluated with passive dosimeter packages consisting of thermoluminescent and plastic nuclear track detectors. The results obtained demonstrate that the water shielding method is very promising for the space radiation dose reduction during long-term manned mission
