内容記述 | For the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant (FDNPP) accident the release of plutonium isotopes, especially the possible release from the spent fuel pools, attracted considerable public attention because they present a large risk for internal radiation exposure. The spent fuel pools located in the four damaged reactor buildings contained a much larger amount of nuclear fuel compared to that loaded in the reactor cores of Unit 1-3. Due to the hydrogen explosions in Unit 1, 3 and 4 reactor buildings, the release of fission products from the largest spent fuel pool in Unit 4 reactor building has been suggested, thus, there has been a deep concern in the scientific community on the risk of Pu release from the spent fuel pools. To identify the release sources of Pu isotopes, we analyzed Pu isotope composition (240Pu/239Pu and 241Pu/239Pu atom ratios) in surface soil and litter samples in a forest in Fukushima Prefecture. Combined with data on 238Pu/239+240Pu activity ratio reported by TEPCO, we could identify the release source of Pu isotopes in the FDNPP accident. Details will be discussed in the conference. We anticipate our analysis to be important for more comprehensive understanding of the nature of core meltdown process, and the radio-ecological consequences caused by the accident. After the accident, regarding the release of radionuclides from the accident, mistrust is running high among residents in Japan, especially in Fukushima Prefecture. We believe, our study is important not only for estimation of fuel burn-up and reactor damage in the scientific community, but also for recovery of public confidence with trust. This work was supported by the Agency for Natural Resources and Energy, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, Japan, and partly supported by the MEXT (24110004), Japan. |
