内容記述 We have a chance of gamma ray and neutron exposure at nuclear accidents, around high-energy accelerator and in aircrafts. For gamma-ray dose evaluation, we have to measure gamma-ray energy spectrum separately from neutrons. Gamma-ray detectors cannot measure gamma rays discriminated from neutrons, and neutron events are observed in the gamma-ray detectors. We have to separate gamma-ray efficiency and good energy resolution of 6.9% at gamma-ray energy of 662 keV.
We are able to measure gamma rays separately from neutrons using pulse shape discrimination with the NaI(Tl) scintillator. The NaI(Tl) scintillator is useful to measure gamma rays under the neutron fields. We measured neutrons and gamma rays produced by Li(p, xn) reactions at the cyclotron facility in National Institute of Radiological Sciences in Japan. Additionaly we obtain neutron energy spectrum with Time Of Flight (TOF) method using an organic liquid scintillator, EJ-399-06 with 5.08-cm diameter and 5.08-cm length. Neutrons are discriminated from gamma rays using different pulse shapes. Quasi-mono energetic neutron energy spectrum was measured with 39 MeV-peak and 4 MeV FWHM.
We use the NaI(Tl) scintillator of 5.08 diameter and 5.08 cm length. We can discriminate gamma rays from neutrons, clearly. With TOF method, we obtained prompt gamma ray and scattered and detector activated events. We will obtain gamma-ray energy spectrum and ambient dose equivalents, separately from neutron events under high-energy neutron fields. Our method is useful to subtract background due to cosmic rays, and to measure cross sections of gamma-ray production and angular distributions.
