内容記述 | Measurement of high energy neutrons above 1 MeV is important to assess radiation protection for aircrews and frequent flyers and for benchmarks of Monte Carlo simulations and others. P.Goldhagen and et al. have already measured neutron energy spectra onboard ER-2 using multi-sphere moderated He3 neutron counters and simulated the spectra with MCNPX codes. Others simulated neutrons produced in the atmosphere by cosmic rays. We focused a few to 150 MeV neutron energy spectrum at high altitudes. We already developed the phoswich-typed neutron detectors based on combination of liquid (121.7 mm diameter and 121.7 mm length) and plastic (15mm thickness) scintillators and published below papers. Based on accelerators, we measured property of neutron discrimination from charged particles. Neutron response functions are measured with several quasi-neutron fields and simulated based on the MCNPX code. In this study, we carried the phoswich-typed neutron detector on the business jet. Data acquisition unit is made to acquire signals from -10 to 400 nsec with 12 bits and 500 MHz Flash ADC. Maximum rate of acquiring signals is up to 350 (signals/sec) due to limit of transfer via USB to PC. It is enough to measure particles in the flight measurements above the middle of Japan. The business jet flew at 11 km (FL360) altitude and 42 degree North latitude during 40 minutes. Particles were measured and neutrons are clearly separated from protons; however, cosmic electrons interrupt the particle discrimination. Now, we are analyzing measured pulse heights to obtain the neutron spectrum. In the conference, I will give measured neutron energy spectrum above Japan. |
