| 内容記述 | PURPOSE: In this study, we evaluated the usefulness of MET-PET for pre-operative assessment of head and neck cancer patients. We compared PET findings to pathological findings of specimen from surgical operation for this purpose. METHOD AND MATERIALS: We studied 7 patients (5 males and 2 females) with proven head and neck cancer who had been referred to our hospital for operation. The average patient age was 60.5 years (range 55 to 78). The histological type were squamous cell carcinoma, adenocarcinoma, carcinoma ex pleomorphic adenoma and Warthin tumor. We evaluated the lesion semi-quantitatively on the basis of the tumor-to-Normal-tissue Ratio (TNR). RESULTS: All lesions were clearly demonstrated in MET-PET in our cases. TNR of each cancer was 5.1, 5.2,8.1 and 4.2 in squamous cell carcinoma, adenocarcinoma, carcinoma ex pleomorphic adenoma and Warthin tumor, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: MET-PET successfully detected head and neck cancers as high accumulation lesion in our cases, and it though that MET-PET might be very reliable technique for head and neck cancer assessment. There was a case showed false positive accumulation in neck lymph node. It seemed that we might pay much attention for assessment of lymph node metastasis in neck. |
