内容記述 Risks from ionizing radiation depend both on the radiation quantity and on the quality of the radiation; current concept of the radiation protection is based on the connection between the risk appreciation and physical quantity linear energy transfer (LET). One of the methods of determination of LET is based on the chemically etched track detectors.
This contribution concerns with the improvement of the methodology of LET spectrometer based on a polyallyldiglycol-carbonate chemically etched track detector. The improvement concerns with all evaluation procedures and represents an important step towards the possibility to use this approach for the estimation of radiation quality for radiation protection in many complex radiation fields. The main task of the studies has been to employ this upgraded spectrometer in various applications. Experimental studies were performed onboard spacecraft and aircraft, in high-energy proton beams, in bremsstrahlung radiotherapy photon beam, and in several heavier ions beams. The results measured with track-etch detectors were in some cases also confronted with the results measured by means of other independent methods or with the data obtained using theoretical calculations. The possible advantages as well as disadvantages of this method are also outlined.
