内容記述 | Neural correlates of retrieval success for music memory were investigated using event-related fMRI. Eighteen right-handed subjects (aged 20-28 years) participated in this study. All of them did not receive professional musical education, and did not have absolute pitch. Written informed consent was obtained from all the subjects in accordance with Declaration of Helsinki, and the experimental procedures were approved by Institutional Review Board of the University of Tokyo School of Medicine. A total of 90 newly computer-generated music stimuli were used, which agreed with Western musical system. We used a 1.5 T MRI system (Hitachi Medical Corp., Tokyo) with GE-EPI (TE = 50 ms, TR = 14 s, acquisition time = 3 s, flip angle = 90 degree, voxel size = 4 x 4 x 5 mm3, inter-slice gap = 1 mm). In order to minimize confounding activations generated by scan noise, we used a sparse temporal sampling technique. Subjects were required to perform episodic memory retrieval task. In the whole brain analyses, the retrieval success activities were calculated by comparing Hit with Correct Rejection trials, and the significant activities were assessed at p < 0.001 with six or more contiguous voxels (162 mm3). We demonstrated that the right hippocampus, bilateral lateral temporal regions, left inferior frontal gyrus and left precuneus were the regions of music retrieval success. Anatomically defined region-of-interests analyses indicated that the activity of the right hippocampus was stronger than that of the left (p < 0.05), while the activity of the inferior frontal gyri indicated the reverse pattern (p < 0.05). Furthermore, performance-based analyses demonstrated that the retrieval success activity of the right hippocampus was positively correlated with the corrected recognition rate (p 0.05), suggesting that the right hippocampus contributes to the accuracy of music retrieval. | |||||
