内容記述タイプ Abstract
内容記述 At a time when manned space exploration is more a reality with the planned the International Space Station (ISS) well underway, the potential exposure of astronauts or crews of a spacecraft to chronic low-dose (rate) radiation in the field of low-flux galactic cosmic rays (GCR) and the subsequent biological effects have become one of the major concerns of space science. We have studied biological effects in cellular responses in normal human fibroblasts induced with low-fluence irradiation of different radiation types, such as gamma rays, neutrons and high-LET heavy ions. We focused on the radiation-quality dependence of both cell-killing effect and mutation induction in normal human fibroblasts. Cells were pre-treated with low-fluence irradiation (~1mGy/7-8h) of 137Cs gamma rays, 241Am-Be neutrons, helium ions and carbon ions before following irradiation with X-ray challenging dose (1.5Gy). There observed no difference in cell-killing effect in the pre-treatment among different types of radiations. In mutation induction there was no difference in induced mutation frequency at 1.5Gy of X-ray challenging dose between un-pretreated and gamma-ray pre-treated cells. In the case of the pre-treatment of high-LET ions, it was around 4-5 times higher in carbon-ion pre-treated cells and 1.8-1.9 times higher in helium-ion pre-treated cells than in un-pretreated cells (X-ray challenging dose alone). On the contrary it was reduced in neutron pre-treated cells, when comparing to un-pretreated cells. There is evidence that genomic instability in mutation induction induced with the pre-treatment of low-fluence irradiation depends strongly upon the radiation quality.
