内容記述 A monitoring post is the equipment useful for watch of leakage of radiation or radioactive substance from a nuclear facility. This device regularly offers the data of radiation dose rate (Sv/h, Gy/h) and counting rate (cpm, cps). However, only these data are not satisfactory for early discovery of a nuclear accident or an adequate interpretation of abnormal data of dose rate or counting rate around the monitoring post. Then, a direction finding gamma ray detector, which can identify the incident direction of gamma rays, has been developed. This detector is composed of three kinds of scintillators, i.e. NaI(Tl), CsI(Tl), and BGO with a photomultiplier tube. The measurement principle is based on the relative change of photoelectric peak counts made by each scintillator depending on the incident direction. This principle in the middle energy range has already been proven by the experiment using Cs(662keV). Then, here the characteristics of the directional sensitivity of low energy range (ex.I, 364keV) and high energy range (ex. Co, 1250keV) have been evaluated by using Electron Gamma Shower Program (EGS4). As a result, this detector has been confirmed to measure the incident direction in a wide energy range. The commercialization development is now advanced as a new monitoring post.
