内容記述タイプ Abstract
内容記述 The high energy neutron detector based on the phoswich technique was developed to measure neutron energy spectrum from a few MeV over 100 MeV in an aircraft and a spacecraft. The detector can identify neutrons from protons and other particles in mixed fields of neutron and proton. The detector consists of a liquid scintillator, EJ-399-06, to measure neutrons and a covered plastic scintillator, EJ-299-13, to identify charged particles. The EJ-399-06 liquid scintillator is suitable to carry the detector in aircrafts because of harmless and biodegrable. The photomultiplier was made shorten, 16.5 cm. The detector is 38 cm length and 19 cm diameter, and 10 kg weight. Based on different pulse shapes of incident particles, neutrons are identified from protons and gamma rays. Pulse shapes from high energy neutrons and protons were acquired at the cyclotron and HIMAC (Heavy Ion Mass Accelerator in Chiba) in the National Institute of Radiological Sciences. For onboard measurements, the data acquisition system has been developed based on direct acquisition of signals from the detector. By using the data acquisition unit, protons were discriminated from neutrons in a neutron and proton mixed field; however, gamma rays were not yet. Now, we are improving the data acquisition unit. The detector response to neutrons was measured by the p-Li quasi mono-energy neutrons and the broad energy neutrons, produced from the graphite bombarded by carbon ions, and was calculated by using the MCNPX code. The detector light outputs, also, were measured. In the Feburary 2006, at high altitude, 28,000 ft, test in-flight measurements were done. The data will be shown at the conference.
