内容記述 Purpose:To evaluate the efficacy of fusion imaging of MRI and CT in diagnosis of skull base invasion of head and neck tumors.
Materials and Method:From April 2004 to March 2005, fifty patients, including 24 men and 26 women, with head and neck tumors which were suspected to invade skull base underwent MR imaging and 16-slice MDCT at the same time. Fusion images of color mapped MR images and 1 mm thick CT data were obtained using 3D workstation. Two independent experienced radiologists compared the fusion images with CT and MRI respectively regarding perineural invasion, intracranial invasion, intra-orbital invasion, and para nasal space invasion.
Results:Of the 50 patients, bone destruction of the skull was found in over 90% of the cases. Invasion of the tumors into the skull bones were well visualized by the fusion images. Perineural invasions were well visualized by the fusion images. Certainty for the evaluating points using fusion imaging was superior to single CT or MR images.
Conclusion:Fusion imaging of MRI and CT is superior to single CT or MRI study in diagnosis of skull base invasion of head and neck tumor.
