内容記述 | Cytogenetical investigation of unstable chromosome type aberrations (dicentrics and rings detected by Giemsa staining) and stable aberrations (translocations detected by painting Nos. 1, 2 &4) in the lymphocytes of residents in Guangdong Province, China were performed. In the former aberrations, 22 members from 8 families in high background radiation area (HBRA) and 17 members from 5 families in the control area were examined. Each family consists 3 generations. The number of cells analyzed per member was 2,600 in average. Increase of the frequency of the unstable aberrations attributable to the high level of natural radiation was detected. In the latter aberrations, 6 children and 19 elderly persons in HBRA and 8 children and 11 elderly persons in control were investigated. The average number of cells analyzed per person was 4,916. The frequency of the stable aberrations was much higher than that of the unstable aberrations. Variation in the frequencies of translocations was little in children while it was great in elderly persons. No significant difference was found in the frequencies of translocations between HBRA and control, but correlation between age and translocation frequencies was found. Those results indicate that the high-level natural radiation in Guangdong Province in China increase chromosome aberrations. The degree of the increase, however, is within the individual variation caused by chemical mutagens and / or metabolic factors which have more effect on the induction of chromosome aberrations than radiation in HBRA where the level of natural radiation is 3 to 5 times higher than that in control area. The present study explains why the incidence of malignant and / or congenital diseases in HBRA in China is not noticeable. |
