内容記述 | Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a typical gastrointestinal cancer. In this study we investigated how effective on killing CRC cells by carbon ion beam alone or in combination with 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) in vitro. Carbon ion beam dose-independently suppressed HCT116 and HT29 cell viability and in combination with 5-FU (5M) significantly enhanced its action. Spheroid formation ability of cancer stem like CD133+ cells was significantly inhibited by carbon ion beam combined with 5-FU in HCT116 cells. Apoptosis analysis showed that the percentage of apoptotic cells was increased after carbon ion beam alone with 3Gy and it was extremely increased when combined with 5-FU. Quantitative real time PCR analysis showed that expression of apoptosis-related BAX and autophagy-related ATG7 was significantly enhanced by carbon ion beam alone, and in combination with 5-FU significantly further enhanced expression of those genes compared to carbon ion beam, 5-FU alone.
