内容記述 | Malignant mesothelioma (MM) is extremely aggressive and a typical refractory cancer. In this study we investigated how effective on control MM xenograft tumor by carbon ion beam alone or in combination with cisplatin (CDDP) in vivo. We found that MESO1 xenograft tumor growth is slow (12 weeks after injection of the cells the tumors reach around 10 mm), whereas H226 xenograft tumor growth is relatively fast (4 weeks after injection of the cells the tumors reach around 10 mm). Thus we used H226 xenograft in this study. Carbon ion beam irradiation with 15Gy effectively suppressed H226 xenograft tumor volume and in combination with CDDP (5.0mg/kg ip) significantly enhanced its action. Carbon ion beam alone with high dose (25Gy) significantly reduced tumor volume but CDDP (5mg/kg ip) alone did not. Histopathological analysis showed that carbon ion beam with 25 Gy significantly induced tumor cell fibrosis, cavitation and necrosis compared to that of irradiated by carbon ion beam with 15 Gy or CDDP alone. The analysis of combination treatment of carbon ion beam and CDDP is undergoing. In conclusion, high dose of carbon ion beams or relatively low dose of carbon ion beam combined with CDDP has superior potential to control MM xenograft tumor. | |||||
