内容記述 In our ion beam-induced mutant stock, we have a unique Arabidopsis mutant ast that accumulates great amounts of anthocyanins in seed coat. Dry seeds of ast were exposed to 150 Gy of 220 MeV carbon ion beams from AVF cyclotron at TIARA to obtain mutants of anthocyanin accumulation in seed coats. Because seed coat phenotype is controlled by maternal genotype, M3 seeds, produced by individually grown M2 plants, were observed with respect to anthocyanin accumulation at the immature stage of seed development. As a result, several mutant candidates showing different levels of anthocyanins compared to parental ast were obtained. These candidates were categorized into two groups; paler or deeper than ast. Phenotypes of paler mutant candidates were varied from completely- to weakly-reduced amounts of anthocyanins in immature seed coat. Mutants defecting in already-known anthocyanin biosynthetic genes would be included in this category and expected to show complete lack of anthocyanins in whole plant body. In fact, mutant on the first committed step in anthocyanin biosynthetic pathway (tt4) was found in the screened population. Several mutants showing reduced levels of anthocyanins specifically in seed coat were also found.
