内容記述 Americium (241Am, t1/2 = 433 y) is present in the environment as a consequence of nuclear power plant accidents, authorized discharges from reprocessing plants, and atmospheric weapons tests. It is a daughter product of 241Pu (t1/2 = 14.4 y) through beta-decay. Therefore, the concentration of 241Am will continuously increase in the environment. On August 9, 1945, a plutonium atomic bomb was exploded 503 m in the air over Nagasaki City, Japan. High radioactivities due to fission products had been detected in the Nishiyama area (ca. 3 km east of the hypocenter) of Nagasaki City after the explosion. In the past 60 years, few efforts were made for 241Am study in Nishiyama soil. In this paper, we investigated the current status of 241Am in surface soils of Nagasaki using isotope dilution sector-field ICP-MS combined with extraction chromatography and compared with Pu isotope concentrations. We found that 241Am has reached its expected maximum activity in 2008, and 241Am/239+240Pu activity ratio, similar to 240Pu/239Pu atom ratio, was a useful fingerprint for the source identification of Pu contamination in the environment.
