内容記述タイプ Abstract
内容記述 Electroencephalograms (EEGs) were measured in various altered states of consciousness (ASC), including Chinese qigong, Zen meditation, and Japanese martial arts. During ASC, alpha waves, which are usually dominant on the occipital area, appeared additionally on the frontal area. Those frontal alpha waves tended to synchronize with the occipital ones. The lag time of the alpha waves of the frontal to occipital areas (alpha phase difference) became shorter during qigong than in the resting state, while during meditaiton it became longer. During external qigong ( or qigong healing), the EEGs of qi-receivers showed a similar tendency to that of their qigong masters, in that the receiver's lag time of the alpha phase also became shorter.
Another experimental study during Japanese martial art, To-ate, was carried out. Two practitioners were placed in separate rooms and at a time set randomly within 80 seconds (1 trial), one practitioner (sender) emitted qi. The other one (receiver) gave a sign by pushing a switch when he senced the qi, and his EEGs were analyzed. At the time of actually receiving qi (while the sender was actually sending it), the alpha phase difference between occipital and frontal areas was distinctly shorter than that while sending the receipt.
The analysisi of the frontal alpha waves may make it possible to clarify the ASC and a state below subconsciousness.
