内容記述 | A new method to obtain the line density of latent image specks (LDLISs) on nuclear emulsion plates has been developed in order to measure the deposited energy of high-energy particles. This is achieved by using techniques incorporating gold deposition developer, ultramicrotomy, and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). A fine and spherical gold particle is formed on each LIS by the developer, and tracks of the particles are observed by TEM, which also records the shape of the tracks. Even though the grain density (GD), i.e., the number of developed silver grains per unit length of track, is saturated at high energies, the LDLISs are not in saturation, so that the observable dynamic range is expanded to more than four times larger than which can be obtained by GDs. The precise measurement of the deposited energy for short tracks by particles with short lifetime is also possible using this method. | |||||
