内容記述 | Induction of adaptive response (AR) by priming X-rays in combination with challenging irradiations from high LET accelerated heavy ions (HI) was attempted in young adult female mice of C57BL/6J Jms strain using 30-day survival after challenging irradiations as an index. Three kinds of accelerated HI from mono beams of carbon, silicon and iron with the LET values of about 15, 55, and 200 keV/micrometer respectively were examined. A priming low dose of X-rays at 0.50 Gy in combination with a challenging dose of 7.50 Gy was used in the animals serving as a positive control group to verify the successful induction of adaptive response. The priming low dose of X-rays at 0.50 Gy was further used in combination with accelerated HI. The priming low dose of X-rays significantly reduced the mortality from the high challenging dose of carbon or silicon particles, but not from iron particles. Results indicate that AR could be induced by priming low LET X-rays in combination with subsequent challenging high LET irradiations from certain kinds of accelerated heavy ions, and successful induction of AR would be possible an event relating to the LET value or/and the HI particle of the challenging irradiations. This is the first time to demonstrate the existence of AR induced by low LET X-rays against high LET irradiations at the whole body level in a mouse model. These findings would provide a new insight into the study on radiation-induced AR in vivo. |
