内容記述 | In a series of investigation, effects from high-LET prenatal irradiation on prenatal and postnatal development were studied in offspring following exposure of pregnant Wistar rats to accelerated-heavy-ion beams on the 15th day of gestation. The dose delivered to the pregnant dams varied with the ion particles ranging from 0.1 to 2.5Gy. The outcome of birth and the body weight were recorded. The age at which four physiologic markers appeared and five reflexes acquired was examined prior to weaning. Gain in body weight of the offspring was monitored and two behavioral tests were evaluated in the male offspring. The effects of X-rays at 200 kVp measured for the same biological end points were studied for comparison. The AD50, the mean age for 50% of the offspring in each group qualify for the end point, was used for further analysis of developmental end points. Based on the AD50 data and the results that we published previously, the RBE values and relative attitude of biological effect from accelerated-heavy-ion beams were calculated and presented in this study. These results indicated that the detrimental effects were dependent on both dose and LET of the irradiations. | |||||
