内容記述タイプ Abstract
内容記述 To clarify the mechanisms of FLASH radiotherapy using C ion beams (373 MeV/u and 90 MeV/u), we investigate dose rate dependence of yields of water radiolysis species (OH radicals, hydrated electrons, and hydrogen peroxide). In addition, changes in induction rate of DNA strand breaks with dose rate are evaluated using pBR322 plasmid DNA in solutions. Average dose rates are 0.2 Gy/s (CONV) and 75 Gy/s (UHDR) for 373 MeV/u, and 0.3 Gy/s (CONV) and 100 Gy/s (UHDR) for 90 MeV/u. The G values of the water radiolysis species decrease by UHDR irradiation, compared to that at CONV dose rate, except hydrogen peroxide under 90 MeV/u C ions, at which its yield is independent of dose rate. Furthermore, the induction rate of SSB is independent of dose rate, while that of DSB could decrease by UHDR irradiation. The present findings have indicated that radical-radical reactions occur efficiently with increasing dose rate, resulting in the reduction of the contribution of water radiolysis species to DNA strand breaks, especially DSB under C ions. Namely, the changes in the contribution of water radiolysis species to DNA strand breaks would play an important role for the expression of sparing effects under UHDR irradiation.
