This study first proposes "Radiation-Induced Nitrate Stress Corrosion Cracking" as a novel degradation mechanism in carbon steel components within gamma-ray and accelerator facilities, driven by the concentration of nitric acid resulting from the overlap of gas-phase radiolytic NOx generation and specific wet-dry environmental conditions; furthermore, the investigation demonstrates that extensive and high-concentration gas-phase radiolysis products can exist even in non-radiation areas (outside the irradiation room) provided there is a spatial connection, and that the synergistic effect between these radiolytic species and humid environments accelerates corrosion, manifesting as localized damage in the form of intergranular corrosion and stress corrosion cracking. |
