The plant vascular system plays a critical role in long-distance transport of photosynthates and various signaling molecules, which are essential for plant development and environmental responses. In particular, phloem-mediated translocation of carbon assimilates synthesized in chloroplasts has been a central focus in the study of vascular transport mechanisms. While it has been suggested that leaf position and defoliation can affect translocation patterns, the detailed dynamics and mechanisms underlying network reorganization remain unclear. In this study, we employed a positron-emitting tracer imaging system (PETIS) with the short-lived radioisotope ¹¹C to visualize and quantify translocation in living plants. Using strawberry (Fragaria × ananassa cv. Fukuoka S6), we aimed to elucidate the translocation dynamics between leaves and fruits. |
