This study evaluates the thermal properties of beryllide (Be12Ti) fabricated via plasma sintering as a material database for the design of the Japan Demonstrator reactor. To investigate the effect of sintering temperature on the thermal diffusivity and thermal expansion of Be12Ti, plasma sintering is performed at various temperatures. The thermal diffusivity and specific heat of Be12Ti sintered at various temperatures are investigated. The results indicate that for all samples sintered at 1050 ?C, 1100 ?C, and 1200 ?C the specific heat increases gradually from 1.6 to 2.3 J/kg?K as the temperature increases from room temperature to 1000 ?C. The thermal diffusivity at room temperature is approximately 14.5 mm2/s, which decreases to approximately 9 mm2/s as temperature increases. Additionally, the thermal diffusivity increases by approximately 2 mm2/s as the sintering temperature increases from 1050 ?C to 1200 ?C. However, the lowest heat-transfer coefficient is obtained at a sintering temperature of 1050 ?C, whereas similar values of heat-transfer coefficient (approximately 43 W/m?K) are obtained for the samples sintered at 1200 ?C and 1100 ?C. The thermal-expansion ratios are similar regardless of the sintering temperature. |
