We determined the size distribution of helium droplets produced in a pulsed beam in the condensation regime from the gas phase. The droplets were positively charged via electron ionization and their mass-to-charge ratio was obtained by measuring their kinetic energy using an electrostatic cylindrical deflector combined with the time-of-flight information. The observed size was found to follow the log-normal distribution, which has been observed for the continuous beam production in the same regime, but with a larger mean size by about a factor of 100. |
