Neptunium-237 (237Np) is one of the most hazardous radionuclides of public concern due to its extreme radiological toxicity, long half-life and environmental mobility. Supplying Standard Reference Materials (SRMs) with well characterized 237Np activity concentrations is of importance to develop 237Np determination methods and their validation for the accurate determination of 237Np in environmental samples. In this study, a comprehensive literature survey of 237Np activity concentrations in SRMs was carried out covering the various matrices, e.g., sediment/soil, seawater, and biota. Activity concentrations of 237Np in 25 SRMs were summarized based on a statistical method. Then, accuracy of different instrument analyses and acid digestion methods were evaluated. Finally, by optimizing the analytical method, 237Np activity concentration in JSAC-0471 soil SRM was measured by sector field ICP-MS. The reference values will provide information in suitable selection of SRMs for 237Np isotope determination. |
